By Your Side Practitioner Training
A two-session online training to help practitioners develop their skills in providing transition work to families, with an optional third day focused on adaptation for birth family rehabilitation for children of any age (this is bookable separately, please see the trainings page)
Accredited By Your Side Practitioner Training.
Course Overview
By Your Side provides a practical set of tools that can be used to support children and the adults who care for them as they transition a child from one family to another. Transitions include foster care to adoption, as well as other family compositions.
By Your Side is an attachment-focused and trauma-informed model that integrates Theraplay® and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy. This unique model creates a comprehensive plan that allows all of the adults involved in a transition to work together to support the child.
Using video examples, this training will illustrate how the model is implemented. Participants will learn the By Your Side protocol, explore ways to use Theraplay® across the transition and practise helpful ways to speak with children about the transition as it occurs.
Who Is The Training For?
The training is designed for practitioners who are supporting children as they move family. It is also suitable for managers and other professionals supervising transition work. Separate training is available for foster carers and adopters.
Learning Objectives
- Understand how to apply the seven By Your Side principles to your practice
- Recognise the attachment and developmental trauma principles underlying the By Your Side model
- Increase confidence in how to facilitate direct work sessions across transitions using Theraplay
- Practice and develop helpful narrative across transitions using DDP
After this training, participants can say they are delivering transition work based on the By Your Side model. In order to become a By Your Side Practitioner, further supervision is required.
