Emma Wise is a Consultant Therapeutic Social Worker based in Devon.
Emma has nearly 20 years experience of working with vulnerable children and their families. She completed undergraduate and Masters degrees in Psychology before becoming a support worker, working with children in care, including children in secure accommodation. Throughout this time Emma also volunteered within acute psychiatric services.
While working in children’s residential care Emma felt compelled to move her career towards Social Care, and became committed to hearing and raising the voices of vulnerable and traumatised children. Emma qualified as a Social Worker and worked in child protection services prior to moving across to an adoption team in 2015. Emma gained a wealth of experience and understanding while working within Post-Adoption Support Services. Specifically developing her understanding of the impact of developmental trauma, and nurturing her capacity for a trauma-informed approach within her work. It was in this role that Emma completed her Level One and Level Two DDP training and Theraplay Level 1, and Group Theraplay training.
Emma left statutory services to be employed by The Family Place for over 4 years, and currently works for The Family Place in an Associate role. During this time Emma was able to develop her skill and understanding working alongside a diverse clinical team and supporting families raising children who have experienced Developmental Trauma. Emma is a practitioner in training within the DDP Network and is also now a fully accredited Theraplay Practitioner, having successfully completed Foundational, Intermediate and Final stages of the Theraplay practicum. Emma is also trained in Non Violent Resistance Therapy (level 1).
Emma has seen first hand the positive impact of these therapeutic interventions for children and families. Alongside her associate work with The Family Place Emma is passionate about raising the voices of marginalised children; those who have experienced trauma, but also Neurodiverse children and young people, and those living on the edges of society. Emma is passionate about supporting families to connect in meaningful and loving ways through shared joy and empathy. Emma strives to build in all children she works with a clear sense that they are valuable, seen and worthy of love.
