Debbie is a clinical psychologist who works as on a sessional basis with The Family Place.

She has worked in CAMHS services for 22 years, focusing the last 15 years working with children and young people who have been in care and who have experienced early developmental trauma.

Prior to that she worked with families of children who had physical health needs and life-limiting illnesses. She has a strong interest in how early experiences impact on the developing brain and the impact of this on children’s strengths and needs.

She feels privileged to have supported families through some very challenging times and this further increases her passion to work together with children and families, to strengthen and support their resilience and safety in relationship at these times. A significant part of her work has also been in supporting carers and key adults in developing a trauma-focused understanding of the child’s needs. She is a certified practitioner in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) and has completed Theraplay Level 2.

She is passionate about the relational approach to helping families and looks forward to further supporting families and bringing a creative approach to her work. She has enjoyed helping children to co-create their experiences through the use of stories and hopes to continue that in her future work.
