Assessing Neglect in the Context of Blocked Care
This workshop is for professionals who support adoptive, foster and kinship care families. During the session we will look at:
- Research findings on blocked care in adoption and the impact on children
- The impact of blocked care on children and how to recognise this
- Assessing and supporting applicants/adopters – how to explore capacity within relationships to recognise blocked care and supportive responses
- Good practice on how social workers can respond and intervene in order to work through indications of blocked care
The session will go into detail about blocked care: what is it, how does it develop, as well as differentiating it from other terms such as compassion fatigue, to think about different presentations within families, and indeed the professional network.
The training will draw on research to consider outcomes and implications, as well as thinking through assessment of blocked care and emotional abuse.
There will be discussion, experiential exercises and slide presentation.
