This is an extended 4 hour training video providing an overview of the By Your Side model for facilitating family transitions. The model is attachment and trauma-informed and uses Theraplay® and DDP to provide sessions for children with their main attachment figure alongside.
The video is 4hrs 17mins long and is divided into chapters:
Chapter 1 – Introduction to By Your Side covers the guiding principles and pattern of sessions
Chapter 2 – The work in practice looks at the work in practice and includes video examples of the work done remotely using an actor family
Chapter 3 – The work across introductions
Chapter 4 – Additional elements
Chapter 5 – Reflections on the model includes reflections from a range of parents and professionals who have experienced the model
This resource was compiled during the COVID pandemic.
Who is it for?
The training video has been designed for professionals who are interested in understanding more about the By Your Side model. It focuses on the transition from foster care to adoption but the approach can be adapted for other family transitions (such as short-term to long-term foster care or foster care to birth family). Foster carers and adopters may also find the video useful.
